Nestled on 67 acres in Otisville, Michigan is our home and studio. It is quiet and just the atmosphere I need to spend creating pottery and works of art. After working in the automotive industry as a Color Mastering Specialist and Color Designer for 14 years, I find that my career in pottery is the most gratifying lifestyle I could ask for. I feel pretty lucky to work at home with my two cats, Buddy and Pumpkin, just retired husband Norman, and part time assistant Collette during the week and working at art fairs on many weekends, and the Farmer's Market in Ann Arbor, where I meet so many wonderful people.
What I enjoy about pottery is the flexibility to change direction and explore, to have fun with playful images that bring joy or strive to communicate a feeling or a reflection of nature's beauty. My work is functional reflecting the twists and turns of leaves and branches in the handles of cups, casseroles, teapots and jars. Glazes are inspired by landscapes and colors found in nature. Taking an ordinary object and creating something special that makes it a joy to use is the challenge and reward is when I'm told how my pots are used every day and are loved and enjoyed. |

Matt Harber |
|
Throught out his life, Matt Harber has been drawn to the beauty and energy of trees, wood, and fine wood art. Over the past several years, his spare time has been used to explore artistic burning, hand carving, and power carving wood.
Matt began turning wood on a lathe in the summer of 2003, and quickly discovered that the turned wood pieces were receptive to the painting and carving of the Celtic art forms. Matt's work includes items that have been carved and /or painted with his Celtic art and other designs. |

DragonHorse Studio is one of East Tawas’s latest additions. Officially having opened our doors in June 2007, Tracie Roy and Kim Bertsch have successfully brought art of a different measure to the Newman Street businesses. Complimenting blends of contemporary Native American and other cultural artwork fill the studio walls and cases.
The studio offers a calming atmosphere to showcase the work and allows customers a quiet peek into the artist’s eye. It also is acontinuous working studio, one that is always playing host to various artists and art forms. This upcoming summer we have decided to feature various musicians from the area several nights of the week, helping new talents from the area by spotlighting them to encourage thier musical dreams.
This upcoming month, Tracie and I are proud to spotlight the extrordinary talents of Sarah Fitch, of Rolling Raven Studio's. Her sculptures, tiles and wonderful treasure boxes are a wonderful addition to our studio. She is set to appear in the upcoming American Style Magazine as a featured artist and her work also continues to evolve.
Tracie and I are no strangers to the business. We have been traveling around to juried fine art shows, mind, body and spirit shows, and pow wows for the past six years. We finally decided to plant the studio’s roots here in East Tawas, MI. Both having won various art awards for our art, we continue to expand their creative knowledge within the studio walls.
Tracie is originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan having spent vacation time in Tawas over the years, decided it make it her home with her four daughters, Summer, Mya, Samantha and Dannielle. I myself come from the Detroit area, having spent summers and weekends groing up here in Tawas Bay. Finally making the move and putting the city behind her and her daughter Taylor. Together they live with Kim’s Mom Virginia, who is grandmother to all the girls on our ranch in the Tawas area.
All are welcome bring your spirit, and enjoy DragonHorse Studio. |
Stephanie Gallegos was born in Carmel, California in 1965 and moved to Colorado when she was 3 years old. A self-taught artist, she began drawing horses from the time she could pick up a crayon. Her work has been shown at art shows all over Colorado, and has attracted buyers from as far away as Scotland. While attracted to the southwest and Native American styles, she intends to branch out and include western scenes, a line of carousel horses and marine animals. You can find her work in DragonHorse Studio.

Summertime Moment by Artist Tracie Roy
Tracie's latest painting reminds us that every creature stops to take a moment to enjoy our surroundings, even the Fox takes time to enjoy the sun.... |

Merrillee Brandt started painting in her early teens under the watchful teachings of her Grandmother, who purchased oil paints and canvas for her. She continued to attend art classes through her high school years. In college however she followed her other dream that of becoming a surgeon, which became a reality, evidenced by her thriving practice here in the Tawas, Michigan area.
When she is not practicing medicine, Merrilee spends her time with her two dogs Ernie and Jackson in the woods, on the rivers, enjoying life...enjoying nature. Over the past five years, she has once again picked up her brushes making time for her second passion, painting the very nature that surrounds us all. Her paintings decorate her office and home, and now we are proud to present them here in our studio for your pleasure. |
